World Environment Day on 5 June

International Environment Day, which has been celebrated for over 50 years, was established by the United Nations Conference to raise awareness of the delicate balance between people and the environment.

Both globally and in the approximately 150 participating countries, there is an individual motto each year. This year it is international: "Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.", in Germany in particular "Naturally provide: Security and protection in the climate crisis".

A phrase that hits Germany hard in the face of the current floods.

Schools and circular economy associations in particular are organising educational events on this day to show how each individual can have a positive impact, even outside of the upcoming elections.

Despite all the progress that has been made in recent years, it is now also important to avoid rebound effects - for example, with the introduction of ever more energy-saving electrical appliances, more and more electricity has been consumed as people's guilty consciences and wallets have been spared. Recyclates or other sustainable materials are no substitute for individual renunciation and long-term changes in habits. Even with climate protection levies, travelling by air is NOT harmful to the environment and no certificate can replace an exhaust air filter in production.

World Environment Day is more than a public holiday with balloons and events, it is not a day to feel good, but, like floods and the announced millennium summer, a warning.
